The UK is scattered with many magnificent castles. Many of these great castles cater to group tours and even offer special rates for certain group sizes. Here are a few suggestions:
Leeds Castle Located in Kent, England: This British attraction is one of England’s most beautiful castles and is set on two islands. It has been home to royalty, lords and ladies for over 1000 years. It’s history dates back to 1119 and it has been used as a manor, a prison and even a convalescent home. Visitors to the Leeds castles can enjoy 900 years of restorations and updates. It has been open to the public since 1976, by Lady Baillie who purchased it in 1926. Leeds castle has something for everyone to enjoy and is open from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm daily until March 31st. Opening hours during the summer months are extended. Group “family” passes are available in 4 day, 7 day, 15 day or 30 day passes.
The Edinburg Castle Located in Edinburgh, Scotland: An impressive fortress that sits atop an extinct volcano and overlooks Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland. A favorite of tourists, this castle includes an exhibition of the Prisoners of War. Tours also include visits to St. Margaret’s Chapel, the Crown Square, The Great Hall, and the Scottish National War Memorial. Tourists can visit Edinburgh Castle throughout the year. They are open from 9.30am until 6.00pm from April 1st to October 31st, and from 9.30am until 5.00pm from November 1st to March 31st. Group “family” passes are also available in 4 day, 7 day, 15 day or 30 day passes.
Powderham Castle Located in Kenton, England: Situated next to the Exe estuary, this castle’s walls contain over 600 years of history. It was built in 1391 by Sir Philip Courtenay and has remained in the same family until this day. Glimpse at life in the 19th century and at life in the 19th century kitchen. Regular group tours include exciting walks through the rooms, where guest can really appreciate the beauty of early architecture and amazing outdoor gardens. Set in the middle of a deer park that is home to over 600 fallow deer, the grounds provide visitors with lots of wildlife sightings. Group visits are welcome at Powderham castle and are subject to special rates for groups of 15 or more. The castle is open from March 20th to November 2nd, Sundays to Fridays from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm.
Windsor Castel Located close to London: Built over 900 years ago above the River Thames, the Windsor Castle sits on the edge of the Saxon hunting grounds. It was originally built for William the Conqueror to guard enemies approaching London and was made of wood. It has been in the Royal family ever since and continues to be used by the Queen as a working palace and official residence of the Royal family. A flag above the castle indicates when the Queen is in residence. The castle can be reached by; Road M4 exit 6; M3 exit 3, or by rail from London, Waterloo or Paddington. Visitors and groups are welcome but should be aware that opening times are subject to change on short notice.
