Your wedding is the one day when only the best will do.  What could be better than organising your wedding in a fabulous Scottish castle where the atmosphere is steeped in history and the style of bygone eras.  Alternatively, there are many public buildings which now have civil licenses and which are available to hire for your wedding.  Finally, there are some of the world’s top hotels who can provide everything for the most magical wedding you can imagine.

Edinburgh Castle is an obvious first choice for your wedding.

There are four venues for weddings in Edinburgh castle -

1. Gatehouse Suite – accommodates 40 people for a ceremony. No reception facilities available.
2. Jacobite Room – accommodates 100 people for the ceremony and has reception facilities.
3. Queen Anne Building – can hold up to 120 guests and has reception facilities.
4. St Margaret’s Chapel – 25 guests – a very intimate wedding setting with no reception facilities.

Stirling Castle also makes a beautiful (and central) location for your wedding reception.  At present, there is no civil licence, but the Great Hall is one of Scotland’s finest banqueting venues with a minstrels’ gallery, trumpeters’ loft and raised area that’s perfect for the Highland Fling.

Having attended a wedding at Balbirnie House Hotel, we would recommend this amazing Georgian mansion.  This hotel has a civil license and has a capacity of 250.  It can accommodate up to 60 people overnight.  For large weddings, choose from the sophisticated Long Gallery, the gorgeous Orangery or the Millennium Ballroom which overlooks new gardens.  Other sumptuous rooms are available for smaller wedding parties.

Atholl Palace Hotel, situated in Perthshire, with its civil licence and capacity of 250, also makes a magnificent wedding venue.  Catering for 250 people, this majestic Victorian Palace looks out over the Perthshire countryside towards Pitlochry and has luxurious, spacious public areas and elegant bedrooms.  For the bridal party, two turreted suites with elevated lounges and magnificent views await.  This is a fairy-tale setting for your special day.

For something a little different, why not try out The Hangar at Perth Airport, on the edge of historic Scone.  The extensive facilities include a fabulous function suite for up to 250 guests, a wide range of options for catering and banqueting on your special day, a massive 250 sq.m. wooden dance floor – and thee is plenty of on-site free parking.

Perhaps you are planning a smaller wedding – Glenapp Castle in Ayrshire offers a capacity of 40 (again, it holds a civil licence).  This magnificent, beautifully restored Scottish baronial castle has 17 individually designed bedrooms and suites and the castle is set amid 36 acres of truly spectacular private gardens.  Civil and religious ceremonies can be held within the castle or in the gardens and, as a hotel, the castle is a romantic location for honeymoons.

There are many other beautiful wedding venues in Scotland;  we hope your wedding is truly special.
